Israeli startup aims to improve accessibility for millions of deaf and hard of hearing people worldwide.

Israeli startup Nagish, which develops AI-based communication solutions for the deaf and hard of hearing, has acquired Sign.mt, a company that developed advanced technology for real-time sign language recognition and translation. The deal, valued at several million dollars, was completed through a combination of cash and stock.

Sign.mt was founded by Dr. Amit Moryossef, an Israeli expert in sign language and natural language processing, together with a Swiss partner. The company is registered in Switzerland. As part of the acquisition, Moryossef will join Nagish as head of research.

The acquisition aims to integrate speech-to-text translation, text-to-speech, and visual recognition of hand gestures and facial expressions. This integration is expected to enable more seamless and accessible communication for tens of millions of deaf and hard of hearing people worldwide.

Tomer Aharoni, CEO and co-founder of Nagish, said, “The demand for sign language interpreters is growing, and our solutions are designed to bridge the gap created by the shortage.”

Nagish was founded in 2021 by Aharoni and Alon Ezer. The company has raised $16 million to date and employs approximately 30 people across Israel and the United States.
